U.S. EXPORT SALES FOR WEEK ENDING 5/2/2024

Hides and Skins:  Net sales of 258,600 pieces for 2024 were down 46 percent from the previous week and 43 percent from the prior 4-week average. Increases primarily for China (168,400 whole cattle hides, including decreases of 7,800 pieces), Thailand (31,500 whole cattle hides, including decreases of 1,000 pieces), Mexico (29,300 whole cattle hides, including decreases of 3,000 pieces), South Korea (15,100 whole cattle hides, including decreases of 800 pieces), and Taiwan (13,800 whole cattle hides, including decreases of 100 pieces), were offset by reductions for Italy (500 pieces) and Brazil (400 pieces). Exports of 433,100 pieces were up 17 percent from the previous week and 16 percent from the prior 4-week average. Whole cattle hides exports were primarily to China (270,700 pieces), South Korea (41,800 pieces), Mexico (41,300 pieces), Thailand (35,700 pieces), and Brazil (30,100 pieces). In addition, exports of 1,300 kip skins were to Belgium.

Net sales of 84,100 wet blues for 2024 were up 12 percent from the previous week, but down 29 percent from the prior 4-week average. Increases primarily for Vietnam (46,400 unsplit, including decreases of 100 unsplit), Thailand (30,400 unsplit, including decreases of 3,200 unsplit and 400 grain splits), China (8,200 unsplit), Indonesia (3,400 unsplit), and South Korea (1,400 grain splits), were offset by reductions for Hong Kong (4,700 unsplit) and Italy (700 unsplit). Exports of 139,300 wet blues were up 10 percent from the previous week and 5 percent from the prior 4-week average. The destinations were primarily to Vietnam (48,200 unsplit), Italy (35,100 unsplit), China (20,200 unsplit), Hong Kong (17,900 unsplit), and Thailand (11,800 unsplit). Net sales reductions of 75,900 splits, resulting in increases for South Korea (3,100 pounds), were more than offset by reductions for China (79,000 pounds). Exports of 88,700 splits were to South Korea (85,000 pounds) and Vietnam (3,700 pounds).
